When Life Takes Precedence

Imagine driving down the street. Sunday afternoon, a beautiful afternoon, taking the family to Barnes & Noble for magazines. Things couldn't be better. Now, imagine a huge tree limb falling on your car. What are the odds of that actually happening? For me, it's a given. Yeah, that was last Sunday. No injuries, not even a broken window. But my poor car is dented and scraped, with woodchips under the antenna and the roof rack. So now comes the task of dealing with the insurance company and The State. The less-limbed tree hangs over a state road and hopefully the state will do its part and pay up.

Needless to say that this is taking up free time. But no complaints as long as things work out.

Intro, long overdue

There's only so much time and so much that needs to be done. Laundry; cleaning, driving, cooking, placating, backscratching, the list never ends. Now I can no longer ignore this blog and it's time to get started.

I've been knitting since I was in high school. I tried before but I didn't quite get the hang of tension and purling. I ended up teaching myself from watching my aunts. So I knit backwards because my knitting was a mirror of theirs.

I started sewing when I was 5, handsewing. Then I started machine sewing when I was 10. Quite accomplished; I made my own wedding gown.

So now when I knit, I see it as a fabric and then imagine how to knit it. Like I tell my kids, it's all in the construction. An increase here, a yarnover there and I'm on my way!

Since I learned to knit backwards, I have a difficult time with lace. I'm a whiz with color - fairisle, intarsia, you name it. Cables aren't too bad. But lace.......not in this life.
